Dear Parents,

God Bless and congratulations to our 2nd grade students who received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion this past Saturday.  It was a beautiful Mass and, as always, our children were very well prepared!  Please remember them in your prayers.

New York State ELA and Math Testing and grading is over, and we are very focused on our Common Core Curriculum. May is a very busy month!  We have an abbreviated week coming up so please pay attention to the dismissal times and closing:

  • Today through Wednesday, May 8th - Parent Organization Mother’s Day Sale is ongoing.
  • Wednesday, May 8th- ½ day dismissal for all. It is “Teacher Appreciation Day,” and we have a faculty meeting.
  • Thursday, May 9th- Ascension Thursday, a Holy Day of Obligation.  Please refer to the bulletin for Mass times.  SCHOOL IS CLOSED!
  • Friday, May 10th- School is open for a regular full day.  This is another of our “Superstorm Sandy” give-back days.  Ice cream will be sold.
Upcoming:
  • Thursday, May 16th- Flynn and O’Hara, our uniform company, will be at school from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. to measure students and take orders for the 2013-2014 school year.
As I keep reminding you: it is very important that all financial obligations for this school year are completed by June 20th. We must close the books on the Parish side, so that the Regional work may begin. There can be no exceptions to this, so please be reminded to take care of this very important obligation, as I do not want to have to cancel your re-registration. Items include tuition, breakfast/lunch, after school program, fundraising, Church donation and general fees.
As always, I am available to you if you have any questions or concerns.

Respectfully,

Carole Arbolino

Dear Parents,

Now that we are at the end of the third quarter there are many important items I need to share with you...

  • Tomorrow, Friday, April 12th, is a half day of school. Students will be eating lunch before leaving. There is after school program.
  • Next Tuesday begins STATE TESTING for grades 4, 6, and 8. Please be sure your child is in school on time, rested, and has a full breakfast. Please DO NOT make any appointments for the mornings of State Testing. All students need pencils and grade 6 and 8 need calculators. Please, NO absences!
  • Since the third quarter ends tomorrow, I implore all of you who are behind in tuition, breakfast and lunch, after school program and fund raising to pay those bills. I can't release the Report Cards unless all financials are up to date.

*** I also remind you that unless all financials are paid in full by the last day of school, June 20th,  I must cancel your re-registration, as the books must be closed for the parish based school, and open for the regional school.

  • Even though some days have been warmer, students must remain in winter uniform, as there is still a chill in the air; inside and out! Summer uniform begins on Tuesday, April 30th.
  • Fr. Norton and I would like to meet with ALL parents from grades PK-7 regarding Regionalization and the Common Core Curriculum on Tuesday, April 30th at 7:00 in the auditorium. Please save the date to meet with us!
  • HELP! Please help me reach our raffle quota! We need less than 100 more tickets to reach our goal. If just 30% of our families sold ONE extra ticket, we would reach our goal! Please help! Please! I am resending a ticket order form if you need one.

Please join us for the Annual Parent Raffle Dance on Friday, April 19th, at 7:00p.m. in the auditorium. We will have a DJ, food, raffles, a 50/50 and the main school raffle for $15,000.

March 16, 2013

Dear Parents,

Please be reminded that school is closed for students this coming Monday, March 18th, due to a Common Core Teacher Conference Day.  School resumes on Tuesday, March 19th.
Lunch for Tuesday, March 19th,  will be: BBQ chicken nuggets, wheat dinner roll, corn, mixed fruit and milk.
Our Pastor, Fr. Norton, is asking for volunteers to help clean the Church next Thursday, March 21st.  As you all know, Cardinal Timothy Dolan will be celebrating Mass here on Saturday, April 6th, and Fr. Norton wants St. Benedict’s Parish to “shine” in every possible way!  There will be NO heavy lifting and moms and dads are welcome.  This is yet another opportunity for you to complete your mandatory service hours.  Please contact Mrs. Carole Janicki at the rectory (718-828-3403), if you would like to volunteer.
The Variety Show has been changed to Friday, May 3rd.  More details to follow.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all!

Respectfully,

March 7, 2013

Dear Parents,

As we look toward tomorrow and a dicey weather forecast, please take note of the following:

  • Tomorrow, Friday March 8th, is a full day of school for all students.  In the event of a snowstorm you will be notified by IRIS ALERT ONLY IF WE HAVE A DELAYED OPENING OR IF SCHOOL IS CLOSED; by approximately 6:00 a.m.  You, as the parent, should make the determination as to whether or not you are sending your child to school.  Please do not call the school or the rectory!
  • Ice cream will not be sold tomorrow.
  • Sunday, March 10th, please join us for the 9:00 a.m. Mass, (this is a special time for this week only), with breakfast to follow in Father Albert Hall. The St. Patrick’ Day Parade follows, honoring our Pastor, Fr. Stephen P. Norton.  Our CYO Sports teams and Brownie/Girl Scouts will be marching with their respective groups. Any other students who are interested in marching in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade should meet on Lafayette Avenue (between Calhoun and Revere Avenues), no later than 11:45 a.m. The parade kicks off at 12 p.m.  Please look for our own Mrs. Jeannette Chin and Mrs. Lore Rosano; they will be there to assist our students with line-up only! Students interested in marching who are not members of a sports team/club or Brownie/Girl Scouts should be accompanied by a parent!  Please wear your gym uniform to show your school pride.
  • Re-registration packets are due back NO LATER than Friday, March 15th.  This is a firm deadline as I will then be sending acceptance letters to our new applicants for the 2013-2014 school year.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
  • As promised, the corrected Smart Tuition enrollment form indicating the ten (10) month payment option will be sent home with your child tomorrow.  If you have already filled this form out you do not need to submit it again, this is for your records only!

As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
